Coasters
Saturday, May 7th, 2005When my mom came to visit from Germany, she kept checking the stores for coasters, but could just not find what she was looking for. Inspired I went to the shop to try and come up with a solution. I think the result is quite nice (and if not nice at least different).
The coasters are made from walnut. I turned and sanded the fronts on the lathe, then parted the coasters of the remaining would and sanded the backs by hand.
The base was turned from a piece of Maple from the Firewood pile, then drilled and slots and foot cut with the bandsaw and everything sanded by hand. The base got a bit of tung oil treatment to bring out the grain, then base and coasters were finished with an oil/polyurethane mix.
